Abstract

Project management, as a strategic area, is part of a changing scenario linked to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, in which a technology-driven perspective has required new management approaches in organizations. This article aims to map the integration between project management processes and the elements of Industry 4.0, looking at the influence of digital technologies and the attributes of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on project management. To this end, an exploratory and descriptive study with a qualitative approach was conducted using a research procedure based on triangulation. Among the results, a significant number of points of convergence (34) between the knowledge areas of project management and 4.0 technologies stand out, especially Big Data, cloud computing and cyber security. In addition, the attributes and technologies of Industry 4.0 were related to all phases of project management, suggesting that Industry 4.0 permeates the processes of a project-based management approach. This article points out that project management 4.0 is based on complex and mutually related integrations between management processes and the elements of Industry 4.0, further indicating that digital technologies have a high potential to support project management in the face of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
