Abstract

Nowadays, Industry 4.0 is the fourth manufacturing Revolution, the rise of new digital industrial technology that will lead to greater efficiencies and growth, become more flexible and productive, changing traditional production relationships between human and machine. According to ABDI, it is estimated that such manufacturing revolution will create a macroeconomic shift of USD15 trillion in the next fifteen years throughout the world. Brazil represents only 2% of industries that adopted this new technology. The present study was carried out through a questionnaire applied to executives of seven multinational companies in the automobile sector, located in the metropolitan region of Sorocaba-São Paulo. The results presented show that Industry 4.0 will be important for survival and guarantee competitiveness with national or international competitors. On the other hand, such companies still depend on their headquarters and they need to change traditional production relationships among suppliers and customers. This survey has shown that Brazil is still starting slowly and this might affect industrial competitiveness in a short period of time. Therefore, they will have to speed up to keep up with the pace.
