The development of regional public policies and the contemporary transformations carried out by the innovation process are correlated with the integration between higher education institutions, companies and government, based on the use of science and innovation to reduce the degree of socioeconomic disparity. The present study is an exploratory research, being conducted by a documentary analysis, based on the higher education institutions participating in the IV Symposium of Research of the Great ABC – SPGABC (2014). The research shows the involvement of higher education institutions of the great ABC in innovation actions and regional public policies. As a result, it has been found that some higher education institutions are more involved with regional public policies, while others are more involved with innovation processes. In this way, it was possible to understand the way these institutions act and their vocation to their stakeholders, as well as to identify their contribution to the growth and development of the great ABC.
