Policy on Originality and Handling of Suspected Plagiarism
Policy on Originality and Handling of Suspected Plagiarism
*Revista Científica Hermes* expects submitted manuscripts to clearly acknowledge the sources of any ideas, text, data, images, or other materials produced by third parties. Authors are responsible for the correct attribution of sources and the integrity of the content.
Authors’ Responsibilities
Authors must cite the sources used, identify direct quotations, and obtain any necessary permissions to reproduce copyrighted material, where applicable. They must also inform the journal of any previous versions, related work, or their own prior publications that contain content overlapping with the submitted manuscript.
Manuscripts must not be under simultaneous consideration by another journal, unless explicitly authorized by *Revista Científica Hermes* for a specific case. The reuse of an author’s own previously published content must be disclosed and properly referenced.
Assessing Potential Overlap
The journal may examine manuscripts and consult related sources to address concerns regarding originality and attribution. This assessment will consider the context, extent, and significance of the overlap, the presence of appropriate citations and references, and any explanations provided by the authors.
Similarity reports and results from automated tools may support the assessment process; however, they do not, in isolation, constitute proof of plagiarism or an automatic basis for rejection. Overlaps in references, properly identified quotations, standard technical terminology, or conventional descriptions of methodology do not necessarily constitute an irregularity.
Editorial Procedures
Should a significant issue arise, the editorial team may request clarifications, previous versions of the work, references, or documentation of permissions. Whenever circumstances allow, authors will be given the opportunity to respond before an editorial decision is reached. Depending on the nature and severity of the situation, the journal may request revisions or additional documentation, temporarily suspend the evaluation process, reject the submission, or—in the case of an already published article—issue a correction, an editorial statement, or a retraction. The course of action will be determined following an analysis of the case and the available information.
Use of artificial intelligence tools
The use of artificial intelligence tools does not, in itself, constitute plagiarism. Nevertheless, authors remain responsible for the accuracy of the manuscript, the verification of sources, and the proper attribution of ideas and materials. The use of AI must also comply with the specific policy of *Revista Científica Hermes* regarding this subject.
Scope
This policy applies to manuscripts submitted to and articles published by *Revista Científica Hermes*. The journal strives to apply this policy impartially and consistently, while taking into account the specific circumstances of each case.
