Artificial Intelligence Usage Policy

Artificial Intelligence Usage Policy

Revista Científica Hermes permits the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools to assist in the preparation of manuscripts. The use of such tools does not, in itself, constitute plagiarism. Authors remain responsible for the submitted content and must adhere to the journal’s standards regarding originality, citation, copyright, and academic integrity.

Guidelines for Authors
Authorship: AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Responsibility for the work must be attributed to human individuals.

Transparency: When an AI tool is used to produce or modify significant portions of a manuscript—for example, to draft, translate, summarize, or rephrase content—authors must disclose which tool was used and for what purpose. This information must be included in the submission, in the section designated by the instructions for authors.

Language Support: The use of AI tools limited to checking spelling, grammar, or clarity—without altering the ideas, data, or conclusions—does not require disclosure, unless otherwise specified by the journal.

Content Verification: Authors are responsible for reviewing all content produced or modified with the assistance of AI. They must, in particular, verify the accuracy of information, citations, references, translations, and statements attributed to sources. Any references suggested by an AI tool must be verified against the original publications.

Prohibited Uses: The use of AI to fabricate or improperly alter data, results, images, citations, or references is not permitted. Furthermore, AI must not be used to conceal the copying of others' work or to present the contributions of third parties as one's own.

Third-Party Content: The use of AI does not exempt authors from the requirement to cite sources or to obtain necessary permissions for copyrighted material.

Guidelines for Editors and Reviewers
Editors and reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of both manuscripts and peer review reports. Therefore, authors should not input unpublished material or confidential information into AI tools that do not provide adequate guarantees for data protection. Editorial evaluation and decision-making remain the responsibility of humans.

Analysis of potential irregularities
The journal will examine suspected instances of plagiarism or the inappropriate use of AI by considering the manuscript, the sources involved, and the specific circumstances of the case. Results from AI or similarity detection tools will not be treated in isolation as proof of plagiarism, nor will they serve as an automatic basis for rejection. When necessary, authors may be asked to clarify their use of such tools or the origin of specific content.

Before publication, ensure that the stated policy aligns with practices that the journal is actually capable of implementing. If the policy relies on specific external guidelines, cite those guidelines as references; rephrasing text does not substitute for the proper attribution of the ideas used.
